Piano Rockappella Cum Laude

folds“This is not a novelty .. I consider this my new record…I’m incredibly proud of this.” Says the piano bar-y genius Ben Folds about his latest album.  “If this were Ben World, this would be my greatest hits album. I’d rather this be my greatest hits record than someone collecting my masters and slapping on a photo of me leaning against a piano. This is a better way. I’m a songwriter, and these are my songs.”

So what is he talking about??

Ben Folds has ditched his piano and created a new album Ben Folds Presents: University A Cappella, a “Greatest Hits” collection of America’s best a cappella groups covering Ben Folds’ songs. Over a two month span, Ben, his wife Fleur, and engineer Joe Costa recorded the tracks themselves in four hour sessions. The sounds were all captured with six area mics.

To accompany the new release Ben Folds will be on tour with some of the groups. Maybe it will be as rockin as this video for “Army” below performed by the University of Rochester Midnight Ramblers .
